Scale models are a very useful tool in the design process. Especially if a client isn’t quite sure what they want a piece to look like. Unless a person works with drawings regularly, it can be difficult to visualize the actual piece of furniture from a 2D drawing. It is often faster and more descriptive to make a series of models than a series of drawings. I can make a CAD rendering of a project if you really want me to, but I find it does not mesh as well with the tactile nature of the finished project, and can disrupt the flow of the process of making by hand.
